Story 1DX/VE045 Story from 1DX/VE045 activity held during August 2007. Venice Island story Through the latest years I have visited Italy during the summer holidays. In 2005 we also visited Venice and parked in the big Parking house next to the old city. The parking house is situated on an island itself. Before leaving Denmark I did look at Venice maps and internet, checking if the Parking house was part of VE045 (Venice island) or maybe another sub suffix. Dialogue with Francesco 1DX012 and Christian 30DX401 helped me to define than the Parking house actually was included in VE045. With the family we had more than 2 weeks at a camping site about 2 hours drive from Venice. Sunday, 10/8 the propagation all morning was great, and at 12 o'clock we decided to visit Venice: The family as tourists and me as an radio expeditioneer. I entered the 5 storage Parking house and drove all way up towards the top level (5. floor/level 5). But, at level 4 I found that access to level 5 was restricted by a boom. I could not access the top level with my car !! After inspecting the premises I could conclude that I could raise the antenna at level 5 and have the antenna cable outside the building down to the car at level 4. In fact that was perfect: The antenna was at maximum heights and I was in the car 1 storage below: In the shade… Nice and cool. I mounted the antenna and some plugs made for antenna pipe, through the cable over the edge and went down to the car. After some few seconds I was ready, but… the radio was "dead".
