Story 30DX/E323
The story about activation 30DX/E323 Morro del Gos Islet:Written by 30DX401 Chris Hello DXers, We are back home. It is 22:15h and I have just arrived home from Oropesa. Gaby is now still on the road in a huge traffic jam...I think he will arrive to his QTH at around 01:00 AM or later. At 08:00 this morning I received a sms from Jose Mari 027 telling me to cancel the activity. A huge thunderstorm was heating Castellon coast at that time...30 minutes later I phoned George, who was already in Oropesa, and asked him about the WX. The report was the same: Heavy rain, lots of lightning and very strong wind. Then I tried to phone Gaby without success, and it was too late because at 09:00 he arrived punctually to pick me up. The same thunderstorm arrived at 09:30 in my QTH. It was moving South to North along the coast. I must admit it was a very heavy storm, like a tropical hurricane or so. There even was a blackout for about 1 hour!. After some phone calls to George and Jose Mari, we decided to cancel the activity...but Gaby still wanted to go down and meet George, even if we couldn't activate the island. I agreed and took the equipment "just in case"...off we went down to Oropesa! What was our surprise that while we were driving South the clouds were disappearing, and temperature was getting hotter.. It was 13:00h when we arrived to Oropesa. Gaby and I decided to have lunch. A quick pizza at "Oropizzas" would be fine. At 15:00 we finished lunch and arranged the meeting on the island with George and Jose.. After some difficulties on crossing the whole equipment through the water and the rocks, Gaby and I began transmission at 15:30, I made some tests with 13DQ010...but, oh mistake...we forgot a pen! On a run I got to the closest restaurant and arranged a pen. Everything was ready to begin. An hour later George arrived and joined us...and about 1'5 hours later Jose Mari arrived. At 17:49 we made the last contact. 19AT895...battery was almost empty! We were sorry it was too late for Mette 088 :-( Also, the WX was turning bad again. A new thunderstorm was on the way, and it was better to leave. Off for a drink all together and for the usual chats and laughs! A nice day for us, the Invoker Team was together after some time. We are happy that we have given a new island to some island hunters. We hope to get you in the next one! End of report On behalf of the Invokers, Vy 73's Christian 401 return |
