Story 47DX/JY003

Story of 47DX/JY003 on Aaro island, 20th and 21th July 2011

Team was 47DX109 mr. Jesper (mr. Gert, photographer and friend who is not WKD radio)

As a continuation of my trip on Barsoe island EU-172 JY002, we had reached on Wednesday, 20/7 when I was ready to go to Aaro Island, EU-172 JY003. I needed just to pack the last pieces of equipment in the car and check my generator, Bell was 8.30 utc and I must be on the ferry at 12.40 utc from Aarosund. The generator started very well but when I hit the choke from it went to a halt after about 10 seconds, what is now wrong, I thought, it's almost new. I tried again, but it would not start so I began to disassemble the air filter and carburetor then, look at things without finding some fault. I reassembles it, tried to start it, but still no result. I dismantled once again the air filter and carburetor, to look at the carburetor a little more carefully, where I include separate bowl to make this a passable, this worked and the generator ran perfectly.

Now I was ready to leave my home and did reach the agreed meeting time in Aarosund at mainland Jutland 12.15 utc, where I would meet with mr. Gert, my friend and photographer. He took his own car on to Aaro because he could drive around the island and be independent of me while I ran the radio. Arriving on the island we quickly checked into the campsite on Aaro pm. 13.00 utc, where I had rented a caravan.

After that I hurried to run down to the selected parking lot, putting my radio equipment up, but not without again having trouble, this time with my SWR meter was broken, fortunately radio worked 100%. After I had taken some pictures with my smartphone and send them to mr. Darran 26DX047 to upload on Delta-Xray's Website, I was QRV at 14.20 utc.

First QSO was mr. Edoardo 1KA007, a good radio friend, mr. Brian 47BO034 and then mr. Leif 47DX054 followed by mr. Soren 47DX002, nice to hear some Danish stations because there are few left in Denmark. Throughout my activation, I was on and off 4 times, where Thursday night the 21/7 was the best, here I had 65 QSOs in the log of a total of 129 and went QRT 19.50 utc where DX'expedition also ended. Radio conditions were not very good, so most stations had only a report with R5 and S1.

As always it has been a wonderful experience, especially because you're popular when you're on an island and meet many nice people on the radio, thanks to you all.

Mr. Gert and I left Aaro island Friday 22/7 with ferry at 9.00 utc, and I would like to say a big thanks to my photographer and friend mr. Gert for spending time accompanying me on Aaro. It's been a pleasant few days and easy for me to produce evidence for Delta-Xray Radio Club, in the form of pictures.

Also many thanks to mr. Darran 26DX047 for being there when the activation runs, and for sending QRV spot on cluster.dk.
