Story 47DX/SJ026
Story from 47DX/SJ026 activity.FACTS: Nyord island is a quite special and very interesting island. Its 5 km2 and connected to Mon island via a dam/bridge. The eastern part of Nyord, around 1/3 of the total size, is owned by "Fugleværnsfonden" - the Birds Protection Foundation". Nyord is very speciel because of its habitant for birds - many rare species live here and many species rest here travelling from north to South and back. This is why "Fugleværnsfonden" has built a huge Bird Watch Tower, around 12 meters high -and perfect as antenna tower. STORY: Finally the DXRC Island Weekend approached… As DXRC takes part in the WWRO Island Festival Contest, this is a great weekend for activating an island. Unfortunately the weather here has decided that it was the same weekend that we had to take in this years harvest (hey for our horses). That gave me very limited time for radio during the weekend - and no chances for a whole day on an island. Since I have no antenna tower at home at the moment, I use my portable Bamby as antenna and the little Yaesu FT897D as radio. No amplifier. The few times I was in the house during Saturday and Sunday, I tried to call some of the many activities going on, but only with limited success. Therefore I decided to run my own activation Sunday evening - after work!! I left home around 20:00 local time Sunday evening, tired after 2 days of hard work. I decided to go to Nyord island, as this island had not been activated since summer 2000. I arrived at Nyord at 20:55 and droce straight to the Bird Watch Tower. After a quick "looking around" I decided to park in front of the antenna tower. Even though the path from the parking lot to the tower is a narrow path, made for walking only the idea was to park next to the tower and erect the antenna at the top of the 12 meter high tower. So I did!! Erecting the antenna took only a few minutes, then I took a few pics with the camera. I began the activation at 21:07 (19:07) with 47DX101, 47DX142 and 47DX054 as the first ones logged. Many stations were active and called me (thanks) - and propagation was good all evening. I took a few breaks for fotoshooting and changing the beam direction (well, it's a Bamby, so there is not much beam with this antenna…) at the top of the tower. Weather was perfect, only little wind, 16 degrees. I had company by cows and mosquitos. I stopped at 22:39 (20:39) with 14IR574, 26FB081 and 1ET455 logged last. I used the QRG 27.530, the last 20 minutes with a Spanish station (30SD/SFC2010 by 30SD805) also using this frequency! In total I worked 78 stations from 18 DXCCs: England: 19 stations France: 17 Stations Denmark: 7 stations I managed to work 22AT263 Bruno (Thanks Bruno) as only station from outside Europe. DXRC-stations worked: 13DX028, 26DX015, 26DX047, 47DX019, 47DX054, 47DX101, 47DX142, 47DX132 It was FUN, it was GREAT, - it was a fantastic QTH with a super view. See the pics. Thanks to all operators calling me Greetings Soren 47DX002 return |
