Story 52/47DX101 .
Story from 52/47DX101 activity.Hi to all, My stay on Faroe isls, Streymoy isl. were job jobrelated, not holliday. I really had not expected to find time to get on air at all. Thats why I had left antenna and rig back at home, except a little handheld QRP radio. I hoped, should I get time for radio, I would be able to use some of the HF stations belonging to my company. The first 3 days were spend in Thorshavn city, where I lived in Hotel Streym located close to the atlanctic coast and just a few hundreds meters away from the HAM Radio Club OY6FRA. From the coastline I had a few nice QSOs just using the handheld and just a whip antenna, it were rather amazing. After 3days I moved from Streym Hotel to new quaters at my company compound facility, which is located about 10Km NW of Thorshavn, and still on Stremoy island. I found an 8meters tall pole and some plastic tubes used for electrical installations, it were thrown together using tabe and strips and a Bamby were made. Probably the ugliest Bamby ever seen, but it worked, and for sure provided signals many decibels better than the handheld's whip antenna. As time progressed, workload permitted me to active from some of my companys HF sets from time to time. I had a few nice runs. Propagations often seemed very sporadic and localized geographically. Typical E skip. Only Europe were heard and worked, I guess because high mountains were blocking the take off in all other directions. Thanks to all, both logged and not logged, Im sorry for the very irregular appearance. 73 cu from the North Atlantic soon again: John 47DX101 return |
