Story 161DX/D010 Bóbr isl. IWI Story from 161DX/D010 activity held during the DXRC Islands Weekend 2008. Lwówek Slaski German: Löwenberg, is a town in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship in Poland. Situated on the Bóbr River, Lwówek Slaski is about 30 km NNW of Jelenia Góra and has a population of about 10,300 inhabitants. It is the administrative seat of Lwówek Slaski County, and also of the smaller municipality called Gmina Lwówek Slaski. It was my second activity as DXRC member. I went to Lwówek to activate Bóbr Island, a middle sized island with a outdoor swimming-pool and a bus stop on it. The Island is about 20km from my QTH, so after just few minutes I was on the island. For the first time I decided to use my home made BAMBY antenna and my new Icom 706 (IC735 as backup). The Power supply was a 170PS, 2.2 Liter Audi car :) Saturday WX were great, condition poor – so I made 48 QSO only (7 divisions) – but enjoyed every minute on the Bobr Island!!! On Sunday the radio was all dead in south west Poland, so I decided to stay at home. Thank you very much for the great time during 2008 WWRO Island Festival and DXRC Island Weekend. Special TNX goes to 161DX012 Waldi for placing some new IWI from Province "D" in the Database for me (more IWI soon, Waldi :) and to DXRC for the great input - Island Weekend! See You next year. Stay tuned! Tom (the IWI scout and INCOGNITO DXer) 161DX013 161DX/D010 Bobr River return |
