Aland Island 12-14-12-2024. 12.12.2024 I left for Aland Island early in the morning from my home about 270km away. I had built everything ready so that the antenna installation would be as quick and easy as possible. The ferry Kustavi-Vartsala broke down quickly, but then I had to wait for the M/S Ada ship for about 1.5 hours. So I was there in good time. I had been sick at the beginning of the week and my voice was really gone. I was a little nervous about how I would get through this, but luckily the lozenges helped me a lot. The trip on the ship Asnäs-Ava went quickly. I immediately drove to check in at my accommodation, after which I went to the pre-planned location. This was a great location about 13M above sea level (Bockholm). I got the station up quickly at 14:12UTC and some stations ITL before the propagation closed. I put the antenna down and decided to be there early in the morning. 13.12 07:30 local time I drove to the location. I noticed two cars there. They were landowners who were wondering what was going on there. They didn't want me there, so I took down all the antennas and went to plan B. It's strange that I wasn't allowed to be there, because the "Persbrandte historical landmark" is also located in the same area. Luckily, the landlord who managed the accommodation said that he had a good place about 1km away (Nottholm) and I could go there. So I built the station there and I was able to be there in peace. 8:40 UTC I got the station set up in a new location. The weather was really windy on the 12th and 13th. The wind gusts were 18m/s and on the 13th it also rained a lot. 14.12 The morning started in Ava and 07:00 UTC and I logged the last station there at 11:16 UTC. Next I dismantled the station and started moving to Brändö island. While driving to Brändö, I noticed a great spot on Djurholm island. A small change of plans and I started building the station there. It was raining and windy again, but the spot was great. The sea opened up about 160-250 degrees. Working vertically was really easy from this location. The first station was logged at 12:40 UTC and the last at 14:42 UTC. About two hours of activation and there were comfortably logged stations in EU, SA, NA. It was time to dismantle the station and rush to the ship, which left for Finland at 15:35 UTC. I got on the ship and the journey continued. When I got to Finland, there was a strong aurora propagation on the radio. I chatted while driving to several Finnish stations via the aurora. When I got home I was greeted by over 20CM of snow :) Thanks to all the stations! Another nice trip :) See you again with the band. QSL design: Click on the thumbnails below for larger image.
