Story 47DX/FY009

Story from 47DX/FY009 activity.

Story from 47DX/FY009 activity.

Already at DXRC World Meeting in Genner last year Jesper and I have made an agreement that together we would make an activity.

Mid-spring Jesper contacted me and suggested Lyoe island as the target of our activity, and when it had not previously been on 11meter, we quickly agreed that it should be it.

Friday May 11 at 14:00 UCT we met in Faaborg to jointly take a ferry to Lyoe island. After an hour of sailing and a short drive we arrived to Lyoe Holiday Apartment where we had rented an apartment. We immediately began to put up the station, but due to strong winds, we had a bit of a struggle to raise the 15 meter high pole for the bambi, but we succeeded and it was properly secured with some guidewire. Following, the radio was set up, and finally the vertical antenna and we were ready to go on air. The radio was turned on and zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz was the only thing that came out of the speaker. It was a bit of a disappointment since we had both heard that conditions were fine on our way to the ferry. First and only in the log on the first day was 47DX002 Soren.

Saturday morning there still not was any propagation, so while we ate breakfast we let our voice keyer run on the 570. After breakfast we started cqing, and the band slowly and only slowly began to wake up, and gradually there came some stations in the log. Across the whole day, conditions were very sporadic and late afternoon, it disappeared almost. We had almost given up trying to log more that day, but in the evening band opened to the south of Europe, with 1.14 and 49 div. in the log.

On Sunday morning, it was the same story again, it was the same very sporadic propagation. Shortly before 9:30 o'clock UCT, we completed our activity on Lyoe island because we had to had to reach a ferry home. We managed to log 90 stations from 17 different DXCC.

I would like to thank my team-mate Jesper 47DX109 for an exciting weekend, and on behalf of the team thanks to Darran and John for quick uploading of live images and other material presented. Also thanks to all who participated.

On behalf of the team.
Best wishes
