47DX/KI - Korshavn Island
Korshavn island I along with 47DX054 Leif and 47DX109 Jesper was doing 47DX/FY010 Avernakø island the entire weekend from a rented summer house. While being at Avernakø island it would be no problem also to activate Korshavn since Korshavn is connected to Avernakø via a dam, approx. 500 meters long. The dam was built in 1937 and the island have nearly 100 inhabitants. I did activate Korshavn only twice because of low and no propagation, I was active as 47DX/KI for 1 hour Friday in the afternoon and Saturday late afternoon, for approx. 2 hours. First transmission took place from the Western tip of Korshavn, next to the Dam. The antenna was raised only a few meters from the Sea and only 1,4 km from the Summerhouse at Avernakø. Since we did not transmit from Avernakø at that time, it was no problem. Friday I logged 49 stations, Saturday only 13 stations were logged, in total I managed to log only 68 stations… Due to very low propagation I decided not to activate Korshavn Sunday, instead all resources was used at Avernakø island. On Korshavn Sunday I meet a German couple that had visited the island several times before. They told me about the “klokkefrø” (European Fire-bellied Toad / Bombina bombina), a frog that is nearly extinct from Denmark, but actually lives at Korshavn. I even heard the frog, in interesting experience. Written by: 47DX002 Soren. Back. |
